August 8, 2019 – (Orlando, FL) –Engineering & Computer Simulations (ECS) founder and CEO/president, Waymon Armstrong, has been named a finalist for the renowned Pioneer Award, presented by Military Simulation & Training (MS&T) magazine’s 2019 Industry Simulation & Training Awards. Industry, military, and business colleagues are asked to vote for the individual who exemplifies outstanding and consistent contributions to the simulation and training community today through August 19th.
Armstrong says: “I am truly honored to be included alongside Robert Abascal and Dr. Rajive Bagrodia as a prestigious Pioneer Award finalist. Voting for the nominees is limited to one voting session per MS&T subscriber each year and takes place at this link through Monday, August 19, at 5:00 p.m. EDT/9:00 p.m. UTC; digital subscriptions are available at no charge within the voting form. The Pioneer Award honoree will be announced in mid-September.
A true visionary in the MS&T industry and the Central Florida business community since 1997, Armstrong’s contributions have helped change how the military trains as he led ECS to be one of the first companies to bring computer-based gaming, or serious games, to military training. As technology evolved, ECS became a leader in in the late 1990s and early 2000s using massively multi-player games, mobile technologies, virtual and augmented reality for military and first responder training. He has also led ECS in the investment of creativity, talent and financial resources in research and development of military medical training, and specifically for over 15 years on the Tactical Combat Casualty Care simulation that is now program of record.
Well-known as an advocate for the industry, and in support of the military MS&T industry, Armstrong has led and participated as a partner with other leading companies to showcase, grow and solidify the industry as well as build its visibility. He has also been a frequent speaker at local, national and global events, including keynoting at I/ITSEC, MODSIM WORLD, and speaking at the Florida Simulation Summit, TSIS Small Business Panel, and numerous technology-related panels, such as Innovations in E-Learning, IT Florida, the Synergy Summit, the Summer Computer Simulation Conference, the Transportation Research Board, the National Research Council, Otronicon, and the Federal Consortium for Virtual Worlds. In addition, Armstrong has testified before the House Aviation Sub-committee on safety and security, and the State of Florida’s House Select Committee on security.
He has been consistently recognized for his community contributions, entrepreneurship and business leadership, and serves or has served on several boards, including the University of Central Florida Research Foundation board, the Digital Media Alliance of Florida, GrowFL and on the Metro Orlando Military Affairs Advisory Committee, the Sunshine Chapter of AUSA, and Valencia Community College’s Digital Media Technology Advisory Committee. He has also chaired the Orange County (Florida) Mayor’s Modeling, Simulation and Training Blue Ribbon Commission, as well as the Orlando, Inc. Leadership Orlando – Class 92.
