October 21, 2021 – (Orlando, FL) – Engineering & Computer Simulations (ECS) received the Best of Show award at Synapse Orlando last week. ECS showcased its Haptics Burn Care Escharotomy Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) work, as well as other customized training programs, including PM Cargo instructor training. Brian Kornfield, President of Synapse, presented the award to Waymon Armstrong, president/CEO of ECS, at the end of the event.
As part of the SBIR Phase II research program with the Defense Health Agency, ECS has developed a mixed reality training system integrated with haptic devices within the U.S. Army’s Synthetic Training Environment to perform an emergency Burn Care Escharotomy. This integration allows Warfighters to collaborate within the Tactical Casualty Combat Care environment while experiencing natural interactions and a sense of touch, which improves their quality of training and retention.

Synapse, a non-profit organization founded to accelerate innovation throughout Florida, hosted the second Synapse Orlando on October 15, 2021, at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. The conference featured demos, exhibits, and panels covering topics from cybersecurity to augmented reality and was the final event as part of Orlando Innovation Week, which ran October 9-15.
